A Jewish man was severely beaten by two black teens during an attempted robbery in Crown Heights on Wednesday evening.

Around 7:20 PM, the Chassidic man, in his mid-50s, was exiting the subway station and walking home near President Street and Utica Avenue.

He was approached by two teens wearing face masks, estimated to be between 15 and 20 years old. One wore an orange bandana, while the other had a black one.

“What type of phone do you have?” they demanded.

The victim kept walking, trying to avoid engagement. The teens then picked up a wooden cane and demanded that he hand over his phone.

Before he could comply or attempt to flee, they began brutally beating him with the cane, striking him multiple times and with such force that the cane snapped in half.

At one point, the victim managed to run, but they chased him—one riding a scooter.

Crown Heights Shmira responded, searching for the perpetrators and reviewing nearby surveillance footage. They also notified the NYPD and Hatzalah.

“The victim is in excruciating pain and is currently in the emergency room,” reported Yaacov Behrman, Director of the Jewish Future Alliance.

This incident follows three recorded incidents last week in Crown Heights, including a slashing attack on a Jewish man, a Jewish individual being aggressively knocked down, and a man who harassed customers at Kosher Cafe with antisemitic and anti-Israel slurs. All the incidents involved black male perpetrators.
