Kuching man jailed for punching, biting wife over affair claims

KUCHING (Sept 24): The Magistrates’ Court here has sentenced a 23-year-old man to 11 months in jail for punching and biting his wife during an argument.

Senior Court Registrar Syazwani Sajeli imposed the sentence on Albert Keling Franky after he pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt, read together with Section 326A of the same Code.

According to the charge, he committed the offence around 1.30pm on Sept 20 at a rented house in Kampung Kudei Lama here.

Based on the facts of the case, Albert and his wife got into an argument after he accused her of having an affair.

He became dissatisfied and lost his temper when his wife talked back to him, leading him to punch her in the face and bite her left hand.

She lodged a police report, which led to Albert’s arrest at 3.10pm on the same day.

Investigations found that Albert has a problem with his temper and had acted aggressively during the incident.

A medical report confirmed that his wife sustained wounds to her face and a bite mark was visible on her left wrist.

Deputy public prosecutor Abdurrahman Abrar Jarni appeared for the prosecution while the accused was unrepresented.
