SIBU (Nov 16): The Sibu Prison has exceeded its official capacity of 450 inmates, according to the prison’s psychology officer, Azrol Adenan.

“Based on the entry statistics, there are 621 inmates as of Oct 24 this year,” he said.

He shared this information during his presentation at the Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) Innovation, Integrity, and Meet the Customer Day event, held at Wisma Sanyan today.

Azrol, one of two invited speakers at the event, highlighted the various skills training programmes available to inmates, aimed at helping them become self-sufficient upon their release.

These programmes include pastry making, woodworking, sewing, gardening, and batik workshops.

The other speaker was Noraini Abu Bakar from Sarawak Integrity and Ombudsman Unit (Unions).

The event was officiated by Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) chairman Clarence Ting.

Also present were SMC deputy chairman Mohammed Abdullah Izkandar Roseley and SMC secretary Yong Ing Chu.
