Labourer arrested in Mukah for suspected drug-related offences
by Yunus Yussop · Borneo Post OnlineMUKAH (April 6): Police arrested a 56‑year‑old man at a house in Kampung Lintang, Balingian at around 1.20pm on Sunday for suspected involvement in drug‑related activities.
Mukah District police chief DSP Muhamad Rizal Alias said the arrest was carried out during an operation by personnel from the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division of the Mukah District Police Headquarters (IPD).
“A search of a room in the house led to the discovery of a transparent straw containing crystalline substances believed to be methamphetamine. The seized substance weighed about 0.34g,” he said in a statement.
Muhamad Rizal added that the suspect, a labourer, was taken to the Mukah IPD for further action, and a urine screening test later returned positive for both amphetamine and methamphetamine.
He said the case is being investigated under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and Section 15(1)(a) of the same Act.
“The suspect has been remanded for three days until April 9 to facilitate investigations,” he said.
Muhamad Rizal also reaffirmed the police’s commitment to curbing drug abuse and urged the public to provide information on drug-related activities via the hotline at 084-871222 or at the nearest police station.
