Continuing to operate Kuching pub at 9.15am sees supervisor fined RM2,000

KUCHING (Dec 12): The Magistrates’ Court here fined a pub supervisor RM2,000 in default one month in jail for operating the premises beyond the permitted hours set by the Kuching South City Council (MBKS).

Magistrate Mason Jaro Lenya Barayan convicted Lai Tzin Khoon, 31, on his own guilty plea to a charge under Rule 24 of the Entertainment By-Laws 2001, punishable under Rule 28 of the same By-Laws.

The provision carries a fine of up to RM2,000, imprisonment of up to six months, or both, upon conviction.

The offence was committed at a premises on Jalan Canna at 9.15am on Nov 28.

According to the facts of the case, a police team conducted a raid on the premises and found loud disco music audible from outside, indicating that it was operating beyond the authorised hours.

Investigations revealed that Lai was the supervisor and had full control over the management and activities carried out at the premises.

Deputy public prosecutor Muhammad Aidil Akmal Sharidan appeared for the prosecution.
