Construction worker gets 35 years’ jail, 12 lashes for murdering wife in Kota Kinabalu

KOTA KINABALU (Sept 24): The High Court here has sentenced a construction worker to 35 years’ jail and 12 strokes of the cane for murdering his wife four years ago.

Justice Datuk Celestina Stuel Galid convicted Nul Sadam Jemsi, 35, after a full trial.

In her reserved decision, she held that the prosecution had proven its case against Nul beyond a reasonable doubt.

Nul, who holds an IMM13 pass, was found guilty of murdering his 22-year-old wife at an unnumbered rented room in Segama, here on March 22, 2022.

He was convicted under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries the death penalty or an imprisonment for life of between 30 to 40 years, with at least 12 strokes of the rotan for male convicts under 50 if not sentenced to death.

The court ordered for Nul’s jail sentence to take effect from the date of his arrest on March 22, 2022.

The prosecution called 16 witnesses to testify against Nul, while he was the sole witness for his defence.

Deputy public prosecutor Dana Arabi Wazani handled the trial while Nul was represented by counsel Jamadi Saleh.
