Eric Anderson concludes tenure as national swimming coach, Magnus Andersen steps in as interim lead
by Eve Sonary Heng · Borneo Post OnlineKUCHING (Dec 30): Malaysia Aquatics (MAS) has confirmed that national swimming coach Eric Anderson has concluded his role with the national programme following the end of the 2025 SEA Games cycle, after both parties mutually agreed to end his appointment effective Dec 31, 2025.
In a statement, MAS thanked Anderson for his contributions to Malaysian swimming and said the transition marks the start of the next phase of development for the national programme.
The association also assured that interim measures have been put in place to ensure continuity, stability and athlete welfare during the transition period.
Anderson was first appointed as Malaysia’s national swimming coach in February 2024, following Malaysia Aquatics’ announcement on Jan 24, 2024, that he would join the programme alongside Megan Oesting, who was appointed technical director for swimming.
As part of the current transition, Coach Magnus Andersen has been appointed interim lead coach with immediate effect.
He will oversee leadership and coordination at the National Training Centre, manage athlete preparation and competition planning, and act as the primary liaison between athletes, programme coaches and MAS on high-performance matters.
MAS said athletes are to channel programme-related matters, training coordination and competition enquiries through the interim lead coach, while the association will continue to oversee selection policy, governance and official communications.
The national body added that all approved training arrangements remain in place, and competition planning and entries will continue under interim oversight, with any proposed overseas training or alternative arrangements requiring prior written approval through the interim lead coach.
MAS said it will continue to monitor programme stability and will announce further updates on long-term leadership arrangements in due course, reaffirming its commitment to strengthening the high-performance programme ahead of upcoming international competitions.
