BINTULU (Nov 19): The 100th anniversary celebration of the Kapit Peace Making Agreement next month is set to gather some 500 Dayak community leaders from across Sarawak and Indonesia’s Kalimantan, said Works Minister Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi.

The Kapit MP said the event, scheduled from Dec 5 to 8, will commemorate the century-old peace pact signed on Nov 16, 1924 between the Iban and Orang Ulu communities in Sarawak and Kalimantan.

“The event will feature a variety of activities, including seminars with prominent anthropologists and a regatta.

“The climax of the celebration will be graced by Sarawak Governor Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohammad Sanusi on Dec 8,” he said.

Nanta, who is chairman of the organising committee, said this after paying a courtesy visit to Wan Junaidi at the Astana in Kuching yesterday to extend an invitation to the Yang di-Pertua Negeri to the upcoming event.

Among those accompanying him were Tun Jugah Foundation chairman Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Leonard Linggi Jugah, Deputy Minister of Utility and Telecommunications Datuk Liwan Lagang, and Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department Datuk Jefferson Jamit.
