SARIKEI (April 9): Ongoing efforts to strengthen educational welfare at the grassroots level have been further reinforced, with a total of 1,913 students from 23 schools across the Sarikei district receiving school assistance.

Deputy Minister of Plantation and Commodities and Sarikei MP, Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Sii said the initiative has greatly benefited families, particularly those from low-income groups and with many dependents.

He said the aid was distributed through a ground outreach programme carried out by the Service Centre team, led by Wong Soon Mee, with assistance handed directly to eligible students at their respective schools.

“Education is a crucial aspect in ensuring a brighter future for our children.

“Through this aid distribution, students are able to continue their learning in a more comfortable and confident environment,” he said in Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) report.

Huang, who is also Repok assemblyman, added that the assistance included school uniforms and shoes to help ease the financial burden on parents during the new school term.

Among the secondary schools that received the contributions were SMK Tong Hua, SMK Kai Chung, SMK Bandar Bintangor and SMK Meradong.

Also included were several Chinese national-type schools such as SJKC Ming Chiang, SJKC Ming Tee, SJKC Nan Chiew, SJKC Kai Sing, SJKC Tung Kwong, SJKC Yong Kwong, SJKC Kung Cheng, SJKC Tong Hua, SJKC Yong Cheng, SJKC Nang Hua and SJKC Ming Shing.
