MUKAH (Oct 24): A fire broke out at a single-storey Hardcore Poor Housing Programme (PPRT) house in Kampung Badengan here today.

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) reported that nine firefighters from Mukah fire station were despatched to the scene after receiving a distress call at 10.25am.

“The fire, which engulfed 70 per cent of the house, had already been extinguished by the occupants and local villagers using buckets and water from a nearby ditch by the time firefighters arrived,” Bomba said in a statement.

Firefighters then fully extinguished remnants of the fire using a portable pump, drawing water from the ditch.

The department confirmed that no injuries were reported as all six occupants, aged between six and 73, were not at home during the incident.

The cause of the fire and the value of damage caused are currently under investigation.
