Mukah police bust illegal cockfighting ring, four arrested
by Jane Moh · Borneo Post OnlineMUKAH (Nov 15): Mukah District Police have arrested four local men in a raid related to cockfighting in an open area near Jalan Lama Selangau on Thursday.
In the operation at around 1.30pm, a team from the Criminal Investigation Division of Mukah District Police managed to surround and arrest four suspects from a group of about 15 individuals involved in the illegal activities.
Mukah District Police chief DSP Muhamad Rizal Alias stated that all the suspects detained were aged between 21 and 32 years.
During the raid, the police seized two live chickens, three spurs, one weighing scale, as well as gambling equipment and cash amounting to RM250.
“Urine tests conducted revealed that three out of the four suspects tested positive for drugs, specifically amphetamine and methamphetamine,” he said in a statement today.
He noted that the case is being investigated under Section 73(1)(g) of the Public Health Veterinary Ordinance 1999, which provides for a maximum fine of RM2,000 or imprisonment of up to six months, or both.
Meanwhile, he stated that the three suspects who tested positive for drugs will also be charged under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which provides for a fine of up to RM5,000 or imprisonment of up to two years, along with a three-year police supervision period.
“All suspects have been remanded under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code and will be brought to Mukah Magistrates’ Court today for further action,” he added.
