SYDNEY (Dec 14): Australian police responded to an incident at Sydney’s iconic Bondi Beach on Sunday evening, with local media reporting that gunfire had erupted and several people were injured, according to German Press Agency (dpa).

New South Wales Police said two people were in custody and warned the public to stay away from the popular area, but did not describe the nature of the incident or provide further details.

The Australian Jewish Association said that there had been a shooting at a public Hanukkah event.

A video circulating online, said to have been recorded at Bondi Beach but not independently verified, appeared to show two gunmen opening fire as people could be heard screaming and fleeing.

The Sydney Morning Herald reported that dozens of shots were fired and that there were multiple casualties.
