Jobless man jailed 12 months for threatening to run over, kill wife in Kuching
by Kentigern Minggu · Borneo Post OnlineKUCHING (April 10): The Magistrates’ Court here has sentenced an unemployed man to 12 months in prison for threatening to kill his wife by running her over with his car.
Magistrate Ling Hui Chuan convicted Mohammad Yusof Abu Bakar, 39, on his own guilty plea to a charge under Section 506 of the Penal Code.
The Section carries a jail term of up to seven years, or a fine, or both upon conviction.
The offence was committed at a consulate office on Jalan Central Timur here at around 7.45am on April 2.
According to the facts of the case, Mohammad Yusof had behaved aggressively during an altercation with the victim.
He uttered vulgar words and threatened her in Bahasa Sarawak, which was translated as: “I will not let you go. Just wait—once you reach home from work, I will run you over and kill you.”
During the incident, the victim somehow managed to escape.
Fearing for her safety due to the traumatic experience, she lodged a police report, which led to her husband’s arrest.
The victim stated that she was distressed by Mohammad Yusof’s conduct, where he frequently harassed her at her workplace.
It is also understood that prior to the incident, the victim and Mohammad Yusof had been living separately for about two months due to marital issues.
Insp Nur Syafiqa Nyaie Ilin appeared for the prosecution, while Mohammad Yusof was unrepresented.
