Inns of Court Malaysia pays courtesy call on Sarawak Governor
by Lim How Pim · Borneo Post OnlineKUCHING (Jan 11): The Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, received a courtesy call from the Inns of Court Malaysia (ICM) at the Astana Negeri today.
The delegation, led by ICM president Tun Arifin Zakaria, included deputy president Dato’ Mary Lim Thiam Suan and other executive committee members.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Arifin explained that the visit aimed to pay tribute to the Sarawak Governor, who is set to attend the ICM dinner at the Borneo Cultures Museum tonight.
“ICM is currently working to expand its activities to East Malaysia (Sabah and Sarawak) at the suggestion of Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusuf, who has also provided funding for programmes such as seminars, exchange of ideas and legal knowledge among lawyers in the region,” he said in a statement from the Information Department.
He noted that ICM serves as the sole platform for lawyers and judges to come together to exchange ideas and engage in stimulating intellectual discussions.
The dinner tonight marks the first time an ICM programme is being held in Sarawak.
Arifin added that ICM is planning more activities for Sabah and Sarawak, taking into account the differences in legal administration between these regions and Peninsular Malaysia.
Established on Nov 10, 2016, ICM is an organisation that brings together judges, lawyers, jurists, legal academics, and other legal professionals.
Its mission is to foster unity and uphold excellence and professionalism in the legal industry.
