SIBU (Oct 26): The Bawang Assan Community Development Team of Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP), together with officials from Sarawak Energy Bhd (SEB) and Matu District Office and Matu-Daro District Council, made a site visit to Sebedil and Rassau areas to check on the locations for street lighting installation.

The team leader Councillor Kevin Lau said the visit meant to ensure the viability of the proposed sites meant for the streetlights.

“The allocation for the street lighting project is RM100,000 for each area (Sebedil and Rassau).

“So, today we have explained to the ‘Tuai Rumah’ (longhouse chieftain) that we would want to distribute the streetlights as fairly as possible and at the same time, we would also want to prioritise the safety of certain areas, especially the corner areas,” he said, adding that the fund would come from the Special Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) grant.

Lau said the final proposal for the installation of the streetlights would be done by the SEB, before the actual installation.

“The cost will also depend on whether there is a need to put in the pole or add-on transformation in case the supply is insufficient,” he pointed out.

Lau also said his team intended to visit Kampung Bungan, together with representatives of the Drainage and Irrigation Department, on the proposed upgrading works on the jetty there, which he said the allocation for Kampung Bungan would be about RM150,000.

“We hope that the implementation could be done within a year, so that the RTP projects would be completed accordingly,” he added.
