MIRI (Nov 8): A PKR Sarawak founding member Hadie Suboh passed away today at the age of 73.

He breathed his last breath peacefully at the Borneo Medical Centre here this morning, leaving behind a wife and seven children.

Miri MP and PKR Miri branch chairman, Chiew Choon Man, in a heart-felt tribute posted on Facebook, said the younger generation has looked up to Hadie with respect as a warrior who steadfastly fought against injustice and for the well-being of the poor and neglected.

The late PKR’s veteran’s advice continued to ring Chiew’s ears since their path crossed during the last general election in 2022.

“No matter what, we all have to work hard and work in one team to make sure we win in Miri.

“These words he told me as when I was a candidate about two years ago remain fresh to this day.

“Yes, those are the words of a reformer, Uncle Hadie, who always worked hard to help me throughout the last GE campaign,” he said.

Chiew said PKR Sarawak was deeply saddened with the passing of Hadie, who is highly regarded as a respected fighter and an extraordinary person who has contributed much to the community and the “Reformasi” struggle in Sarawak.

“Uncle Hadie is not just a political activist, but a genuine fighter who dares to stand up against injustice and oppression. He not only brought the voice of the local community, especially the rights of the original population and those who were oppressed, but also sacrificed his whole heart and soul for the well-being of the people.

“Even from a simple background, he was never afraid or have second thoughts to sacrifice time, energy, and money to defend the plight of those in need – from the coast of Kuala Baram to the hills of Canada Hill in Miri, his name is so close to the hearts of the local community,” he said.

Chiew said Hadie’s sincerity in fighting for the fate of the people and society made him so respected and loved as the less fortunate and those who fight for justice remembered him as someone who was always with them, fighting for their rights without expecting anything in return.

Hadie’s daughter Zulhaidah Suboh has taken up his mantle, and is currently PKR Sarawak Deputy Wanita Chief and PKR Sibuti Branch chairperson.

The Miri MP pledged to carry on the unfinished business of Hadie’s political struggle.
