Over RM660,00 in federal funds to rebuild three rural Sarikei bridges, says MP
by Yunus Yussop · Borneo Post OnlineSARIKEI (Dec 13): Three rural bridges in the Sarikei parliamentary constituency would soon be rebuilt under a federal-funded initiative amounting to RM663,350, said Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Sii.
The Sarikei MP said the reconstruction works overseen by the Rubber Industry Smallholders Development Authority (Risda) had completed the tendering stage, and had been officially handed over to the contractors.
“All three projects are expected to be completed within three months.
“The approved projects comprise Jalan Mee Ming, Minah at a cost of RM229,800; Sungai Kar, Jalan Kesa at RM231,650; and Kesa, Baron at RM201,900,” said the federal Deputy Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister.
He also said the initiative was part of Putrajaya’s ongoing efforts to enhance rural infrastructure and ensure public safety, particularly as the existing wooden bridges had deteriorated and were posing risks to users.
“We will continue to prioritise the safety and well-being of the people. These upgrades reflect the federal government’s commitment to improving rural connectivity,” he added.
Huang’s representative Kapitan Ling Dien Yong had earlier visited the project sites together with officials from the relevant agencies to review conditions on the ground and receive progress updates.
