KOTA KINABALU (Nov 15): The Sabah government remains committed to addressing housing needs for low and middle-income groups, with plans to construct 225 affordable public housing units in five districts.

Finance Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Masidi Manjun announced that the housing units will be built in Kemabong (Tenom), Sukau (Kinabatangan), Melalap (Tenom), Beluran and Pitas through the Sabah Housing and Urban Development Board (LPPB).

The initiative, allocated RM10.05 million, underscores the state’s focus on providing comfortable housing for underserved communities.

In addition to housing, the state is advancing its efforts to address urban and rural poverty through new township development projects.

Masidi revealed that RM3.49 million has been set aside for the continuation of ongoing projects and the commencement of two new townships in Pekan Baharu Pegalungan (Nabawan) and Pekan Baharu Sukau (Kota Kinabatangan).

“The Sabah government, through LPPB, is committed to continuing the agenda of addressing urban and rural poverty through new township development programmes,” he said.

Masidi added, the Town and Regional Planning Department will receive RM6.58 million for operational expenditure to promote structured and sustainable land development in urban, rural, and territorial waters across Sabah.

This includes RM730,000 for the preparation of local plans in line with the Sabah State Structure Plan 2033.
