SIBU (Oct 27): Effective communication skills are paramount to building trust within communities and improving law enforcement effectiveness and efficiency, said deputy head of Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department (KJPJKK) Sarawak ACP Dasuki Che Driss.

Effective communication in law enforcement, he said, would help resolve issues and boost the image of the Royal Malaysia Police and enhance public trust.

“Effective communication not only connects us with the community but also serves as the key to professionally resolving issues, thus every member must acquire this skill especially when dealing with situations that require calmness and quick decisions,” he said at the closing of the annual training for the Police Reserve Volunteer (SSPDRM) Sarawak Contingent Series 1/2024 at Wisma Pengaman here yesterday.

“In our duties, there is no guarantee that it will go smoothly every day. However, with continuous training, we can prepare ourselves to handle any challenges competently,” he said in his address to the 43 male and female police officers who were involved in the training.

The objective of the training, he stressed, was to build and instill confidence in each participant, regardless of any situations or circumstances.

“A good officer is one who can balance physical, emotional, and intellectual strengths in fulfilling their responsibilities. Leadership is not just about holding a position or power but the ability to inspire, guide, and encourage others to achieve common goals,” he emphasised.

Also present were SSPDRM commander cum Police Volunteer Superintendent (SP) Dennis Phang, and Deputy Superintendent of Police Boniface Bajai.
