Phase 2 of DLP a step forward in education, says Sagah
by Yunus YussopBINTULU (Oct 30): Phase 2 of the Sarawak dual-language programme (DLP) workshop held in Bintulu yesterday represents a significant leap forward in providing quality education and further empowers both teachers and students, said Dato Sri Roland Sagah Wee Inn.
The Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development (MEITD) said that the DLP is unique to Sarawak, where the science and mathematics subjects are taught in the English language.
“This initiative is a testament to our commitment in equipping our students with not just academic knowledge but also with language skills that are essential for their future.
“By integrating English into the teaching of these critical subjects, we provide our young learners with the opportunity to access global knowledge and resources. Thus, preparing them to thrive in an increasingly interconnected world,” he said in his opening address when officiating at the programme held at Fairfield Marriott Hotel here.
He added that the success of DLP is not just a priority, but also a necessity.
MEITD will ensure that the necessary support, training and resources will be provided to schools, teachers and students, he said.
“We are committed to delivering high-quality workshops and providing continuous assistance, ensuring that DLP is implemented effectively across all participating schools.
“Our dedication is reflected in the provision of essential resources such as the Teachers’ Guidebooks, Student Activity Books and National Geographic Learning Materials meant to support teaching and learning in English,” he said.
He added that the state government’s ongoing support for DLP is a clear indication of its long-term vision for education in Sarawak.
“The state’s leadership understands that proficiency in English, especially in the fields of science and mathematics, is critical for students’ competitiveness in higher education and for the job market,” he added.
