Man jailed 18 months for stealing motorcycle helmet, cash from Kuching parts shop

KUCHING (Oct 25): The Magistrates’ Court here today sentenced a man to 18 months in jail for committing burglary and theft of a motorcycle helmet and RM950 cash from a motorcycle parts shop.

Magistrate Mason Jaro Lenya Barayan meted out the sentence against Arsuwandi Junaidi, 32, after he pleaded guilty to Section 457 of the Penal Code, which provides imprisonment for up to 14 years upon conviction.

Arsuwandi committed the offence at a motorcycle parts shop near Jalan Matang here around 12.19am on Oct 22, 2024.

Based on the facts of the case, the shop owner discovered that his store had been broken into on the back door, with RM950 cash from the register and a helmet valued at RM1,800 gone.

A police report was lodged and Arsuwandi was arrested on the same day at 9.45pm.

During the arrest, the police also seized from Arsuwandi the stolen helmet.

Investigation also found a closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage clearly showing Arsuwandi breaking into the shop and stealing the money and the helmet.

Insp Nur Ain Wong prosecuted while Arsuwandi was unrepresented by counsel.
