146 scout leaders in Sarawak honoured for distinguished service

KUCHING (Nov 20): A total of 146 scout leaders have been recognised for their outstanding service and commitment to the development of scouting in Sarawak.

According to a statement from the Sarawak Scout Council (SSC) today, the 146 recipients, including state leaders, Scout Commissioners, District Scout Council members and troop scout leaders from across the state, were honoured with medals and certificates of commendation for their contributions to the growth and success of the scouting movement.

During a heartfelt ceremony held at the Tun Ahmad Zaidi Adruce auditorium at Batu Lintang Teachers Training Institute yesterday, each recipient was individually recognised as they received their awards, which included the prestigious Long Service Medals and Certificates of Excellence.

The ceremony was graced by SSC president Tan Sri William Mawan Ikom, who highlighted the critical role scout leaders and supporters play in shaping the future of young individuals through their dedication to scouting principles of service, leadership, and nation-building.

“The awards acknowledged their tireless work in training and mentoring the next generation of scouts, as well as their involvement in various community development projects,” said Mawan who is an adviser in the Sarawak Premier’s Office for Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development.

Mawan praised their exceptional leadership in guiding young scouts, fostering teamwork, and instilling important values such as responsibility, perseverance, and citizenship.

The event, attended by SSC members, invited guests, scout commissioners, and the awardees, marked a significant milestone in the continuing growth of the scout movement in Sarawak.

It served as a reminder of the importance of volunteerism and the positive impact of youth-focused initiatives in creating a more engaged and resilient community, said Mawan,

The scout award presentation ceremony is a testament to the outstanding contributions of Sarawak’s scout leaders and their commitment to nurturing the leaders of tomorrow, he added.

Also present in the ceremony were SSC deputy president Datuk Mohamad Safri Abdullah, vice presidents Col Jumaat Ibrahim, Kho Ik Teck and Mohadi Mobin, Chief Scout Commissioner Capt Zainuddin Hamdan.
