SIBU (April 8): Chief Justice Datuk Seri Wan Ahmad Farid Wan Salleh made his first official visit to the Sibu Courts Complex on Monday, where a tree-planting ceremony was held to mark the occasion.

He was accompanied by Court of Appeal President Datuk Seri Abu Bakar Jais, Chief Judge of Malaya Datuk Seri Hashim Hamzah, and Chief Judge of Sabah and Sarawak Datuk Azizah Nawawi.

Upon their arrival, they were received by Sibu High Court judge Amelati Parnell, High Court judicial commissioner Alvin Leong, Sessions Court judge Musyiri Peet, as well as magistrates Oon Kork Chern and Romario Jonoi.

They gathered for a commemorative photo before proceeding to the tree-planting ceremony.

The ‘kristal’ (Pometia pinnata) tree was provided by the Sarawak Courts Working Group on Environment (SWGE), symbolising efforts to promote environmental protection and greening initiatives.

SWGE is primarily responsible for discussions on Sarawak’s environmental laws and wildlife protection legislation.

Terengganu-born Wan Ahmad Farid, 63, was previously the Court of Appeal judge before being appointed the 17th Chief Justice, taking over from Tun Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat who retired in July last year.
