Grand Park fire: Cops say no foul play in death of 13-year-old Chinese national
by Jenifer Laeng · Borneo Post OnlineMIRI (Nov 5): Police have ruled out foul play in the death of a 13-year-old girl of Chinese nationality due to a fire at Grand Park here early today.
When contacted, Miri police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the charred remains of the girl, identified as Yuan Ruohan, have been sent to Miri Hospital for a postmortem.
“The postmortem would probably be conducted tomorrow. However, initial findings revealed that there was that no foul play in this incident,” he said.
Alexson added that the girl was a student in a transition class at a private secondary school.
He also revealed that the girl was alone in the house as both her parents had gone out.
The cause of the fire and value of losses in the incident are still being examined.
Earlier, the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said it received a distress call on the incident at 3.06am.
“After receiving the call, a team of firefighters from Lopeng fire station, assisted by personnel from Miri fire station rushed to the scene.
“Upon arrival, the operation commander reported that the fire involved two single-storey detached houses,” Bomba said in a statement.
One of the houses was 70 per cent damaged in the fire while the other only suffered damage to its ceiling.
The operation ended at 5.18am.
