SIBU (Nov 19): Rehabilitation work on a dilapidated bridge near SMK Chung Cheng here is ongoing, with completion expected in about three weeks, said Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh.

The Bawang Assan assemblyman said the bridge was constructed some 20 over years ago and through years of wear and tear, was on the verge of collapse, forcing the residents in the areas to use alternative routes.

“Applying for government funds takes time and the people in the area can no longer wait. In view of the urgency, the Paradom Community Service Committee went to work immediately utilising its own funds,” he said.

He added the bridge is now half-completed, and on track for its scheduled completion date.

Accompanying Wong during a visit to inspect the project were Councillor Wong Hua, Paradom Community Service Committee chairman Ting Hung Hua and Youth chairman Hii Ching Yii, and Sibu Department of Irrigation and Drainage engineer Law Chai Lit.
