Bandar Sibu JKKK brings festive cheer to homeless community ahead of Winter Solstice
by Philip Wong · Borneo Post OnlineSIBU (Dec 19): In conjunction with the upcoming Winter Solstice Festival, the Bandar Sibu village security and development committee (JKKK) conducted a community outreach initiative by donating glutinous rice balls, cooking equipment and various essential food supplies to Homeless Transit Centre (TTG) here recently.
Sibu Rural District Council councillor Kevin Lau, who was invited to hand over the items, said the initiative aimed to bring warmth and festive cheers to the homeless community.
He commended Bandar Sibu JKKK chairman Kapitan David Ngu and the committee for organising the meaningful programme, describing it as a reflection of genuine care and concern for the well-being of those in need.
Lau said the donated items were practical and well-suited to the shelter’s daily requirements, while also demonstrating strong community support for the continued operation of the centre.
“This initiative shows the positive role played by community organisations and members of the public in supporting the shelter and its residents,” he added.
He also expressed appreciation to TTG supervisor Winnie Wong and her team for their longstanding dedication and selfless service to the homeless community.
“Your firm yet compassionate approach is vital in ensuring the wellbeing and orderly management of the residents,” he said, adding that he expressed hope more organisations and individuals would continue to support the shelter.
Lau hoped that those experiencing homelessness would one day find stable homes where they could settle down and live in peace and happiness.
