MIRI (Nov 8): A delegation of 35 members of the Sibuti Community Leaders Association recently made a one-day trip to Melaka.

The delegation from the Sibuti parliamentary constituency, covering Subis and Bekenu, was led by the association’s chairman Amin Antin.

Prior to their visit, they participated in a study tour to the Parliament, Putrajaya and Kuala Selangor after paying courtesy calls to Deputy Health Minister Datuk Lukisman Awang Sauni, who is also Sibuti MP, and Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadilah Yusuf.

Their visit to Melaka was among the activities carried out during their four-day visit to Kuala Lumpur.

Persatuan Anak Sarawak Melaka president Dato Wan Zain Syed Mohdzar welcomed the delegation at a special ceremony, held in conjunction with the visit.

In his speech, Wan Zain emphasised the important roles played by community leaders as the ‘eyes and ears’ of the government at the grassroots level.

“Community leaders are respected for their wisdom and experience. They are the backbone in ensuring unity, safety, and well-being of the community,” he said.

Wan Zain also reminded community leaders of the importance of understanding government policies and local culture to carry out their responsibilities fairly and with vision.

He called on community leaders to continue providing strong support to Deputy Health Minister Lukanisman Awang Sauni, who has been persistent in bringing development and fighting for the well-being of the local community in Sibuti.

“It is important for community leaders to support all initiatives by elected representatives that focus on the welfare and progress of the community,” he said.

He also urged community leaders to unite in addressing growing social issues, such as drug abuse and online gambling, while taking proactive measures in monitoring and reporting any suspicious activities in their area to ensure community well-being.

Additionally, the visit was not only a form of appreciation for community leaders but also provided them with the opportunity to witness progress in other areas and to adapt new ideas to advance their respective communities in Sarawak.
