KUCHING (Dec 18): Repair work on the collapsed road section at Lorong Taman APT 2 is actively underway, with the Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) closely overseeing the project.

In a statement, MPKS said it is in constant communication with the appointed contractor to expedite repairs, prioritising the safety and convenience of residents in the affected area.

The collapse followed investigations that revealed cracks along Jalan Datuk Mohd Musa, adjacent to a monsoon drain.

The damage is believed to have been caused by strong water flow from twin culverts at the Muara Tuang Army Camp, which weakened the drain wall structure.

Prior to starting the works, MPKS conducted multiple site visits, installed warning signs and safety tape, and engaged with residents to explain the situation and interim safety measures while technical assessments were completed.

The council reiterated its commitment to ensuring the repairs proceed smoothly and efficiently, appealing for continued public cooperation throughout the project.

“Public cooperation is important to help ensure the repair works can be carried out smoothly,” MPKS stated, adding that it will closely monitor the repair progress until completion.

The issue drew attention on Dec 16, when Michael Kong, special assistant to Stampin MP Chong Chieng Jen, urged authorities to take immediate action over the sinking road, citing growing safety concerns and calling for a more proactive approach from the relevant authorities.
