KUCHING (April 4): The Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) has officially launched the Sia Sitok Sarawak 2026 campaign at the Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (Matta) Fair in Kuala Lumpur, introducing a limited-time promotion offering discounts of up to 40 per cent on Sarawak holiday packages.

Held at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (Mitec), the launch marks the start of the campaign aimed at encouraging travellers to discover Sarawak while enjoying exclusive travel offers.

In a statement, STB said the initiative underscores Sarawak’s continued focus on the domestic market, urging Malaysians to rediscover the destination amid evolving global travel trends.

“As global travel patterns shift alongside evolving geopolitical dynamics, Sia Sitok Sarawak 2026 comes at a timely juncture — making travel more affordable and accessible, while opening up the full range of experiences across the state,” it said.

STB chairman Datuk Dennis Ngau highlighted the vital role of domestic travellers in sustaining Sarawak’s tourism growth.

“Domestic travellers have always been a central part of Sarawak’s tourism story, and their strong support over the past few years has contributed significantly to our steady growth,” he said.

He added that initiatives such as Sia Sitok Sarawak will strengthen engagement with travellers as Malaysia prepares for Visit Malaysia 2026.

Visitors to the Matta Fair can enjoy discounts of up to 40 per cent savings on selected Sarawak packages, with travel valid until Dec 15 this year – allowing flexibility for travel planning throughout the year.

The promotion features more than 80 curated holiday packages developed in collaboration with 17 licensed Sarawak tour operators.

Each package offers a minimum three days, two nights (3D2N) experience, combining accommodation, guided tours and curated itineraries.

The travel experiences span multiple regions across Sarawak, showcasing the state’s diverse landscapes and cultures.

In Southern Sarawak, Kuching offers heritage streets, vibrant culture and easy access to wildlife and national parks.

Central Sarawak, centred around Sibu, introduces travellers to river journeys along the Rajang River, visits to traditional longhouses and authentic cultural encounters.

Meanwhile, northern Sarawak serves as a gateway via Miri to Unesco-listed sites of Gunung Mulu National Park and Niah National Park, as well as the cool highland landscapes of Bario.

Beyond travel packages, visitors are encouraged to align their trips with Sarawak’s year-round calendar of events, featuring more than 110 programmes statewide.

Among the highlights is the Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF) 2026, scheduled from June 26 to 28 at the Sarawak Cultural Village.

Widely regarded as one of Southeast Asia’s most distinctive music festivals, the event will feature international and regional artists including Datuk M. Nasir, The Commodores featuring Thomas McClary and Incognito, alongside immersive workshops and cultural exchanges set against the backdrop of Borneo’s rainforest.

Following the festival, more than 70 events will continue to take place across the state, offering a wide range of cultural, lifestyle and sporting experiences.

Throughout the three-day fair, visitors to the Sarawak Pavilion can also experience the state’s living heritage through interactive showcases, including traditional music performances featuring the sape and nose flute, live handicraft demonstrations, keringkam embroidery and batik painting displays, as well as quiz sessions and souvenir giveaways.

These experiences bring Sarawak’s rich heritage to life, offering visitors an immersive introduction while exploring travel opportunities across the state.
