Sarawak government honours TYT with PJPS medal
by Samuel Aubrey · Borneo Post OnlineKUCHING (Aug 20): Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar was awarded the Pingat Jasa Pahlawan Sarawak (PJPS) in recognition of his service and contribution during the communist insurgency in Sarawak.
The medal was presented by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg during a special ceremony held at Astana today.
In a statement, the Astana said the award recognised Wan Junaidi’s service and contribution as a former member of the Royal Malaysia Police, particularly during his service with the Police Field Force.
Wan Junaidi joined the Royal Malaysia Police in 1964 and served with the Police Field Force from 1968 to 1973, including in the Rajang Area Security Command (Rascom), a key operational zone during the communist insurgency in Sarawak.
According to Astana, the PJPS symbolises the state government’s appreciation for the service and sacrifices of Malaysian Armed Forces and Royal Malaysia Police veterans in safeguarding the country’s peace, sovereignty and well-being.
Wan Junaidi, who was accompanied by wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, expressed his appreciation to Abang Johari and the Sarawak government for the recognition.
He said the presentation reflected the state government’s commitment to honouring the service, loyalty, and sacrifices of members of the nation’s security forces in the interest of the people and country.
The ceremony was witnessed by Deputy Premiers Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas and Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, and State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki.
Also present were Wan Junaidi’s daughters Sharifah Fariah and Sharifah Nong Jasima, and the latter’s husband Muhammad Nur Hakeem Yusop.
