Miri cops nab two men for suspected drug trafficking

MIRI (Nov 8): Police have arrested two local men at a house here on Wednesday for suspected drug trafficking.

Miri Police Chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu in a statement today said Miri’s Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department raided the house around 3pm following an investigation.

During the raid, the police found a transparent plastic packet and a pink tin containing another transparent plastic packet, suspected to contain ketamine.

“The suspected drugs found weighed 18.25grams in total. The estimated street value of the seized drugs is RM2,730,” he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 39A (1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which, upon conviction, carries a prison sentence of not less than two years but not more than five years and a whipping of not less than three strokes but not more than nine strokes.

The suspects have been brought to court for remand application, which has been granted for three days.

Police also urged the public to report any information regarding drug abuse activities to the nearest police station.
