SIBU (Nov 27): Six Christmas trees, each standing 20 feet tall, will brighten up Dataran Tun Tuanku Bujang Phase 1 here ahead of this year’s Yuletide Festival.

Event organising chairman Councillor Simon Wee said participants in the ‘Christmas Tree Decoration Contest’ began decorating the trees on Tuesday.

“Participants are required to complete their works by Dec 10, ahead of the lighting-up ceremony on Dec 12,” he told The Borneo Post.

Hosted by the Sibu Municipal Council (SMC), each participant receives RM3,000 to cover expenses for setting up and decorating the Christmas trees.

Entries will be judged on the ‘wow’ factor, design, aesthetics for day and night, creativity, as well as durability and sustainability. Judging for night view will take place on Dec 15, and day on Dec 23.

This year, only the champion will receive a prize. Participants include Eco Green Electrical Sdn Bhd, JN_Littleshop, Kolej Laila Taib, Me Homeward Sdn Bhd, Syarikat Seni Bumi Contractor Sdn Bhd, and I-Concept Event Agency.
