RM500,000 RTP allocation approved for futsal court at Miri District Police HQ
by Cindy Lai · Borneo Post OnlineMIRI (Sept 23): A RM500,000 allocation has been approved under Piasau constituency’s Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) for the construction of a futsal court at the Miri District Police Headquarters (IPD).
Piasau assemblyman Dato Sebastian Ting said the project, which aims to provide police personnel with sports and recreational facilities, is expected to be put out for tender by the end of October.
He expressed hope that the process could be expedited, allowing construction to begin as early as December this year.
Ting, who is State Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, said the RTP funds reflected the state government’s concern for the infrastructure needs of law enforcement agencies while helping to improve their working environment.
“With Miri’s continued development, population growth and increasing urban activities, the responsibilities shouldered by the police have also become increasingly significant.
“Therefore, recreation facilities and equipment for the police must continue to be upgraded to maintain good health and boost morale,” he said during a visit to Miri IPD yesterday to view the site for the proposed futsal court.
Also present were Miri police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah and Public Works Department Miri engineers and personnel.
Ting said the development of an area should not focus solely on roads, drainage systems and public amenities, but should also take into account the infrastructure needs of law enforcement agencies and public services.
He added that providing appropriate facilities for police personnel was part of efforts to create a conducive working environment while supporting their overall well-being.
