Kuching flood warning: Temporary relief centres opened after flash flood hits Desa Wira, Batu Kawa

Several PPS have been opened following a flash flood that affected parts of Desa Wira, Batu Kawa in the early hours on Wednesday.

KUCHING (Dec 31): Several temporary relief centres (PPS) have been opened following a flash flood that affected parts of Desa Wira, Batu Kawa, in the early hours of Wednesday.

The Kuching District Disaster Management Committee (JPBD Kuching) said a temporary relief centre has been opened at Dewan Masyarakat Stapok to accommodate flood victims from Lorong 5I, Lorong 5J and Lorong 5K in Desa Wira.

It added that the Dewan Sinar Budi Baru relief centre has also been opened, with flood victims beginning to arrive.

JPBD Kuching said monitoring operations are ongoing in flood-affected areas.

Meanwhile, the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Sarawak has reported that the flooding occurred at around 5am Desa Wira, Batu Kawa.

Separately, the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a continuous rain warning, with heavy rain expected in Kuching, Serian and Samarahan until Thursday, Jan 1, 2026.

A continuous rain alert has also been issued for parts of Serian, Sri Aman and Betong over the same period.
