SUPP Dudong branch reappoints Wong Ching Yong as chairman
by Conny Banji · Borneo Post OnlineSIBU (Nov 17): Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Dudong branch has retained Wong Ching Yong as the chairman for term 2025-2027 during the party’s fourth triennial general meeting (TGM).
Held at Pulau Li Hua here today, the new office bearers’ election also saw the appointment of Assin Mulang as Wong’s deputy, alongside four appointed vice-chairmen – Dr Wong Chya Wei, Ting Heng Ing, Pau Kiew Chuang, and Jang Ajak.
The TGM also witnessed the appointment of secretary Jason Tay and assistants Karen Kuo, Kamarau Agat, and Peter Ting, as well as treasurer Daniel Sng.
The Youth Section chairman and Women Section chairperson, meanwhile, went to Yiing Sy Huat and Ivy Chieng, respectively.
When met at the event, Wong said SUPP Dudong branch would continue to serve the local community through its weekly mobile service at the Chinese areas as well as to the Ibans’ longhouses.
For the Iban community, he said the service team would help them to apply for the Housing Development Corporation’s (HDC) housing loan or the Prosperous People’s Housing Programme (formerly known as the Hardcore Poor Housing Programme) assistance under the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT).
“Dudong has about 23 longhouses already receiving the HDC loans. The latest one is Rumah Pop in Naman area where they will build a new longhouse with 10 doors.
“This means they will receive half a million loan from HDC.
“The biggest advantage of this HDC loan is it offers zero interest, home insurance, and repayment period of up to 300 months or 25 years, which means the residents as per door will only pay about RM100 a month.
Meanwhile, for the assistance under KPKT, he said each family living under one longhouse will get RM20,000 if they qualify.
On an unrelated matter, Wong called upon Lanang MP Alice Lau and Sibu MP Oscar Ling to make public of their ‘report cards’ on their constituencies’ achievements by this year’s end.
“By Dec 31, I will produce my report card since I was appointed as Sibu Rural District Council deputy chairman. I challenge the MPs for Lanang and Sibu to also produce their report cards,” said Wong.
