TATAU (Dec 19): The Tatau District Police Headquarters (IPD) will step up traffic enforcement and crime prevention efforts along major roads and residential areas ahead of the upcoming school holidays and festive season, particularly Christmas and the New Year.

Tatau police chief DSP Jame Reis said the expected increase in public movement during this period could pose challenges to road safety, property security and public order.

“With more people travelling to hometowns or going on holiday with their families, this situation can indirectly affect road safety as well as the security of properties, especially when houses left unoccupied,” he said when addressing a general roll call at IPD Tatau here on Thursday.

He reminded all officers to enhance crime prevention patrols, with particular attention given to residential areas, villages and public hotspots.

On traffic management, he said the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department of Tatau IPD would continue regular monitoring and checks to ensure compliance with road laws, aimed at reducing the risk of accidents.

He stressed that enforcement must be carried out effectively, prudently and with integrity, in line with established procedures.

In addition, Jame said a road safety advocacy campaign would be conducted over six days, Dec 23 to Dec 28, to raise public awareness on safe driving practices during the festive period.

During the same event, he also presented certificates of appreciation and tokens to two winners of the ‘Trim & Fit’ programme, as well as winners in the office cheerfulness category.
