SIBU (Nov 18): The implementation of government initiatives that benefit the well-being of children is a major investment, opined Datuk Michael Tiang.

The Deputy Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government said the implementation is crucial as the initiatives will significantly impact the future of the youths.

“This effort should involve cooperation from all levels of society, starting from parents, family and the community, so as to maximise the potential of our children.

“With the commitment from all parties, Malaysia’s goal to improve the well-being of children in reaching their full potential will be realised,” he said in a speech for the opening ceremony of the World Children’s Day 2024 celebration at Methodist Pilley Institute here yesterday.

The text of his speech was read by Councillor Michelle Law.

Tiang also said all parties, including parents, teachers, community leaders and activists, private and community sectors, as well as media practitioners, must play an active role to make the Children’s Day celebration relevant in society.

“This celebration should be an effective starting point to acknowledge, promote and celebrate children’s rights that need to be translated into effective actions and debates, which ultimately becomes the axis for a more prosperous life for children.

“The application of good values and eastern morals is very important to educate and shape the morals of our children so that we can build a developed, harmonious and sovereign nation,” he added.

The event, organised by the National Consumer Action Council Sibu branch, was attended by branch chairman Lucas Lau and Sibu Information officer Zaini Morshidi.
