by Elton Gomes · Borneo Post OnlineKOTA KINABALU (Sept 9): Police detained a 45-year-old jobless man for making seditious statements on social media, allegedly urging the public to raid the Chief Minister’s and the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sabah’s (TYT) offices.
Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Jauteh Dikun said the posting was uploaded on Sept 7, calling people to gather at the premises and raid them.
“Police arrested the suspect at around 2.45pm on Tuesday (Sept 9),” Jauteh told a press conference at the Kepayan police headquarters, adding that investigations are ongoing to determine the motive behind the post.
Meanwhile, Jauteh said a retired headmaster arrested on Sept 7 for allegedly threatening forensic pathologist Dr Jessie Hiu on social media is being remanded until Sept 11.
Dr Hiu, who testified in the ongoing Zara Qairina Mahathir inquest, had received numerous online threats after her testimony was published in various news outlets.
Police, Zara’s mother’s lawyers, and Hiu’s relatives have since urged the public to stop issuing threats against her or face legal consequences.
