KUCHING (Dec 13): The Sarawak Scout Movement marked a historic milestone with the election of Dato Mohamad Safri Abdillah as vice-president of the Malaysian Scout Council during the council’s 34th Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Kuala Lumpur.

According to a statement, Mohamad Safri is the first Sarawakian to hold the vice-presidential post at the national level.

He was elected unopposed during the AGM, which was held at the Scouts Association of Malaysia headquarters and chaired by National Chief Scout Maj Gen (Rtd) Prof Datuk Dr Mohd Zin Bidin.

Prior to this, Mohamad Safri served as one of the 20 members of the Malaysian Scout Council, a mandate he secured at the council’s AGM in Melaka in 2022.

Over his three-year term, he has been recognised for his dedication and strong commitment to advancing the scouting movement at both state and national levels.

Meanwhile, Jumaat Ibrahim successfully retained his position as an appointed member of the Malaysian Scout Council, reflecting continued confidence in his leadership and contributions.

He also serves as pro tem chairman of the Scout Foundation, playing a key role in strengthening support structures for scouting activities nationwide.

These appointments are expected to enhance Sarawak’s representation and influence within the national scouting landscape.

The continued service of both leaders at the national level is hoped to bring greater opportunities, resources, and benefits to the scouting movement in Sarawak while contributing positively to youth development in Malaysia.
