Dramatic rescue after person knocked from cliff at Inishmore’s "Wormhole"

Rescue 118 was tasked to the scene following the incident, with Aran Fire and Rescue crews first locating the casualty and managing to secure a rope around them.

 When Rescue 118 arrived, the helicopter’s winchman was lowered to the casualty as crews faced a challenging recovery operation at the exposed coastal location.

Following a difficult lift, the casualty was successfully recovered to the aircraft before being flown for medical treatment and transferred to University Hospital Galway (UHG).

The operation involved close coordination between the emergency services on the island and the air ambulance crew, allowing the casualty to be safely removed from the difficult cliffside location.
