Who Is Amrit Mandal? Second Hindu Lynched In Bangladesh This Week

Critics allege that such attacks are occurring under the tacit protection of the Mohammad Yunus administration, with non-Muslim communities increasingly being targeted. Following the murder of Deepu Chandra Das, another brutal killing of a Hindu has now been reported. The latest victim has been identified as Amrit Mandal.
Who Is Amrit Mandal?
Amrit Mandal, also known as Samrat, was a 29-year-old Hindu man and the son of Akshay Mandal. The attack occurred around 11 a.m. on Thursday in the Rajbari district.
Attacked On The Pretext Of Extortion
Police said that local extremists first accused Amrit Mandal of extortion. A mob surrounded him, and when he tried to escape, they caught him and beat him so severely that he died. Authorities have launched an investigation to apprehend those responsible.
Second Lynching In A Week
This is the second incident of a Hindu being killed by extremists in Bangladesh this week. On December 18, factory worker Dipu Chandra Das was beaten to death by a mob in the Mymensingh area. He had been falsely accused of making derogatory remarks against Islam. After the killing, his body was reportedly hung from a tree and set on fire.
Rising Violence After Hadi’s Death
Since Mohammad Yunus assumed power, a wave of violence has gripped Bangladesh. Tensions escalated sharply two weeks ago following the murder of extremist Islamic leader Shariq Usman Hadi, which led to protests blaming India.
Hadi's death triggered violent protests across Bangladesh, during which demonstrators targeted numerous prominent sites. These included the offices of leading newspapers such as Prothom Alo and The Daily Star, the national cultural institution Chhayanaut, the Indian Assistant High Commission offices in Chattogram and Khulna, the Indian Cultural Centre, the remaining structures of the Bangabandhu memorial museum, and various other media outlets, cultural institutions, and diplomatic establishments nationwide. The unrest resulted in several fatalities. A seven-year-old daughter of a Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) leader died after a mob set her family home on fire.
Yunus Govt On Deepu Chandra Das' Lynching
Following India’s strong reaction to the lynching, the Yunus-led interim government assured that those responsible would be brought to justice. Law enforcement agencies arrested 12 in connection with this case.
