Panic gripped the Ahmedabad region on Wednesday, the 17th of December, as three major schools in the region received frightening bomb threat emails. Mass evacuations were immediately initiated along with the activation of security squads as the threat emails contained frightening messages saying “We will take revenge." There are serious concerns over possible ties with Khalistan-extremist groups.

The Joint Police Commissioner for the Ahmedabad Crime Branch, Sharad Singhal, has confirmed that the police, dog squads, and anti-sabotage squads were rushed to the targeted sites. "Police teams are presently at the respective schools to maintain public safety," Singhal said.

Targeted Institutions And Immediate Evacuation

These emails were received by three major institutions of learning within the city:

• Maharaja Agrasen School
• Zydus School for Excellence
• Zebra School

After the receipt of the threatening messages, the school administrations were swift in clearing the premises. One of the messages sent to parents read: "This is to inform you that because of some inconvenience, we have to vacate the Vidhyalaya premises. We request you to collect your child as soon as possible."

Investigation: The Khalistan Connection

Preliminary investigations conducted by the Crime Branch suggest that there could be a connect with the Khalistan movement. Reports have emerged that the emails could be a part of a broader plan that aims to disrupt city tranquility.

This perception gets further support by the fact that a similar threat had been sent to Sanskriti School in the capital city of Delhi on December 10, which mentioned the Khalistan Referendum and threatened an explosion: "Aaj 12:05PM Bomb Blast Hove Ga? Jhoote Police Muqabale Khalistan Referendum Walian De In Punjab…"

A Pattern of Hoaxes Across India?

Although the Ahmedabad police take the current situation extremely seriously, they are also investigating whether they can be part of a series of hoaxes: Amritsar (Dec 12):

Some schools had received such emails, but these have now been termed a hoax after anti-sabotage checks.

Delhi (Dec 10): Two schools received threats, which included revenge for ‘fake encounters’ in Punjab.
