Warner Bros.’ Clockwork Closing In on Park Chan-Wook’s ‘The Brigands Of Rattlecreek,’ With Matthew McConaughey, Austin Butler, Pedro Pascal and Tang Wei

Warner Bros. new specialty label Clockwork is in exclusive negotiations for a North American deal for starry Western “The Brigands of Rattlecreek,” directed by Cannes jury president Park Chan-Wook. The long-gestating project is set to star Matthew McConaughey, Austin Butler, Pedro Pascal and Tang Wei.

Clockwork is already ticking along after announcing at CinemaCon that it had acquired Sean Baker’s “Anora” follow-up “Ti Amo!” in April. The budding label will also release Ken Russell’s “The Devils” in October after the Cannes premiere of the restored version. Clockwork is led by former Neon executive Christian Parkes.

“The Brigands of Rattlecreek” is described as “an iconic tale of vengeance and retribution set in the American West.” A synopsis of the project explains: “A capstone of the themes Park Chan-wook has plumbed across his entire body of work to date, the film is an emotionally explosive and visually stunning meditation on the consequences of violence, the value of family, the power of memory, and the true cost of life.”

McConaughey has been associated with the project for several years: After the script was selected for the Black List in 2006, Amazon acquired rights to the material and was eyeing him to star in 2019.

WME and CAA rep the project, while Patrick Wachsberger’s 193, a Legendary company, is representing international sales.
