“Call it MADANI Tax” – Dr Akmal Urges Govt to Reintroduce GST After Labelling MADANI Mart a KR1M ‘Copy’

by · WORLD OF BUZZ

Previously, we shared how the first-ever MADANI Mart, a federal government initiative aiming to provide quality essential goods at fairer, more affordable prices, was officially inaugurated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in Kuantan, Pahang.

Following the launch, many netizens opined that MADANI Mart copied the Kedai Rakyat 1Malaysia (KR1M) initiative from former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s administration. This is a claim that the Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living, Fuziah Salleh, has since denied.

UMNO Youth Chief calls out MADANI Government’s ‘rebranding’ of KR1M

Following MADANI Mart’s debut, UMNO Youth Chief Datuk Dr Akmal Saleh also took the opportunity to take a swipe at the MADANI Government.

In a Facebook post, Akmal noted how KR1M was heavily criticised by the current administration back when they were in the opposition.

He stated:

“Alhamdulillah. Previously, we had KR1M, but the opposition criticised it back then. Now, they have become the government and came up with the brilliant idea to open MADANI Mart.”

Akmal, who is also the Merlimau Assemblyman, then congratulated the former Barisan Nasional (BN) Government for having sound ideas and policies.

He pointed out that these policies are now being continued by the current government, despite the latter condemning them in the past.

A proposal for ‘MADANI Tax’

However, the UMNO Youth Chief stressed that, despite his critiques, he will continue to support any initiatives that benefit the public.

He further proposed that the MADANI Government reintroduce the Goods and Services Tax (GST), which was abolished by the Pakatan Harapan (PH) Government in 2018, for the benefit of the national economy.

“You can even rename it to MADANI Tax,” Akmal quipped.
