“No exceptions” – DAP Calls on Govt to Take Strict Action Against Drunk Drivers Who Cause Fatalities

by · WORLD OF BUZZ

The Democratic Action Party (DAP) Central Executive Committee (CEC) has called for firm and strict action against drivers under the influence of drugs and alcohol who cause fatalities on the road. The committee also addressed several other pressing matters currently facing the nation.

In a meeting held yesterday (6 April), the DAP CEC discussed various issues, including the impact of the West Asia conflict on the global energy crisis and the potential oil supply challenges Malaysia could face after May.

Raising awareness of the global energy crisis

DAP Secretary-General Anthony Loke stated that party leaders and elected representatives have been instructed to raise awareness among grassroots communities regarding the severity of the ongoing global energy crisis. He emphasised the need for the public to conserve energy and use vehicles more prudently to help reduce oil demand.

Furthermore, he urged the government to continue managing the global crisis comprehensively to ensure the sustainability of the national economy, safeguard the well-being of the people, and manage national resources with prudence.

Constitutional reforms and legal oversight

“Party representatives on the Special Select Committee on the Separation of Powers of the Attorney General will also be tasked with ensuring that improvements to the Federal Constitution (Amendment) Bill are completed promptly and presented to Parliament in the June session,” the statement added.

Education policy and road safety enforcement

On a separate note, Loke urged the government to maintain its policy of automatically offering matriculation placements to all outstanding Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) 2025 students who achieve 10As and above.  He also requested that other high-achieving students be considered based on available capacity.

Moreover, following a recent fatal accident in Klang involving a food delivery rider, Loke, who is also the Transport Minister, called on the government to take firm and strict action against drivers under the influence of drugs or alcohol who cause deaths.

“Strict action against drivers under the influence who cause fatalities should be enforced without exception, sending a clear message to all road users to act responsibly and ensure everyone’s safety,” he added.
