A social media post claiming that a woman was sexually assaulted in a mosque mortuary room has gone viral, with the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) confirming that a report has been lodged.

Melaka Police Chief Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar said a woman in her 50s filed a report against a 48-year-old man, believed to be a mosque caretaker, yesterday (4 June) at around 9:12 AM.

The police found no criminal elements

Dzulkhairi added that after a thorough investigation, PDRM found that there was no element of coercion, according to Sinar Harian.

“The statements obtained show no element of coercion, thus failing to prove the existence of any criminal element. However, the police have referred the case to the Melaka Islamic Religious Department (JAIM) for further action under the Melaka Syariah Offences Enactment 1991,” he said.

Previously, the case went viral on social media with claims that a female worshipper was molested and raped at the location, along with allegations that the mosque imam had stopped the victim from making a police report.

There were also claims that the imam replaced the previous caretaker with a new one, allegedly to protect the individual involved.

Meanwhile, State Education, Higher Education and Religious Affairs Exco Datuk Rahmad Mariman confirmed that the caretaker resigned in May. However, he said the mosque was unable to confirm the reason for his resignation.
