PAS Says Najib Razak’s Pardon Delay “Couldn’t Happen On Its Own”, Calls For Govt Explanation

Previously, The Federal Territories Pardons Board was expected to consider Najib’s pardon application over his SRC International conviction, for which he was sentenced to 12 years in prison and fined RM210 million for misappropriating RM42 million.

However, Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim has consented to the application being postponed to a later Pardons Board meeting.

PAS calls for explanation over Najib’s pardon postponement

The decision was made during the 63rd Meeting of the Pardons Board for the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Labuan and Putrajaya on 11 September, according to Berita Harian.

Following the decision, PAS has since called on the government to immediately explain the postponement to the public, saying that Najib’s application could not have happened on its own.

In a statement, Secretary-General Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan said the circumstances surrounding the postponement should be made known to the public.

He also stressed that PAS believes the postponement of Najib’s application before the Pardons Board could not have happened on its own, unless there were instructions and/or objections from certain parties.

“PAS believes that the postponement of Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib’s application before the Pardons Board could not have happened on its own, unless there were instructions and/or objections from certain parties, whether from members of the Board or other interested third parties.
“Therefore, PAS is calling on the government to immediately explain the matter to the public, as it is an issue of public interest that should not be withheld from the people.”
