“Wages have gone up, but work is still slow” – PMX Warns Govt Agencies Against Slow Work Practices
by Didi · WORLD OF BUZZPrime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has urged all government agencies to put an end to “slow work” practices, stressing that every announced policy and decision must be properly implemented.
He added that delays in administrative matters could undermine the effectiveness of government policies, even when various forms of assistance and reforms have been announced to improve the people’s well-being.
Anwar warns government agencies against “slow work” practices
Anwar stressed that the real test for the government is not just coming up with good policies or making announcements, but ensuring they are properly implemented and deliver results to the people, as reported by Malaysia Gazette.
He said a budget’s success should be measured by how quickly and effectively the government carries out its plans, adding that this responsibility falls on everyone in the administration, from the Chief Secretary to the Government to department heads, directors and director-generals.
Highlighting the problem of slow administrative processes, he said even simple tasks could take far longer than necessary.
“A letter that can be answered in one day takes two weeks. That is a real problem for the country.
“The test is not in the policies or the beautifully crafted frameworks, but in our ability to implement them sincerely,” he said.

Anwar also reminded civil servants to prevent leakages, put an end to corruption and improve productivity. He pointed out that the government had taken various steps to help the rakyat, including increasing aid allocations, easing the burden of fuel costs and rolling out housing programmes.
However, he stressed that government officers must ensure these efforts translate into real benefits for the people, rather than getting stuck at the announcement stage or being held up by lengthy administrative processes.
“If wages have gone up and fuel prices have come down, but work is still slow, then we are asking for trouble,” he said.
He added that he is confident Malaysia could strengthen its economy and improve the rakyat‘s well-being over the next two to three years, provided the entire government machinery focused on getting things done.
