For daily commuters taking public transport in the Klang Valley, dealing with tightly packed trains and endless platform queues during peak hours has become an exhausting routine. However, one Malaysian commuter’s recent plea online caught the attention of the highest office in the country!

According to Harian Metro, a user took to Threads posted a photo capturing the overwhelming daily rush-hour congestion at a local train station, directly tagging Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to highlight the struggles of daily transit users.

“Assalam @anwaribrahim_my, can I ask for a little more train carriages? On days like this with a traffic jam, taking the train is full” the user wrote.

PM Anwar steps in, orders Ministry of Transport & Rapid KL to act

The viral post quickly gained traction, amassing over 25,000 likes, hundreds of comments, and over 1,500 reposts from fellow frustrated commuters sharing similar experiences.

Fortunately, the complaint did not fall on deaf ears. Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim personally responded to the thread, directing Transport Minister Anthony Loke and public transport operator Rapid KL to address the issue swiftly and ease the burden on everyday commuters.

“Wassalam. I asked @myrapidkl, @ministryoftransportmy, and @lokesiewfook to look into this issue and find an immediate solution. This happens frequently and certainly disrupts the daily routines of the general public. We must be more sensitive and take action.” the Prime Minister wrote in his response.

Commuters face recurring breakdowns and heavy delays

Harian Metro reported that the Prime Minister’s swift intervention comes amidst a string of recent public transport disruptions across the Klang Valley rail network that have tested commuters’ patience:

  • Cable Theft Delays: On October 12, both KLIA Ekspres and KLIA Transit services suffered severe schedule changes and extended travel times after thieves stole 180 meters of signaling cables near Salak Tinggi and Putrajaya/Cyberjaya.
  • Station Bottlenecks: On October 8, the MRT Kajang Line experienced massive overcrowding at the Bukit Bintang station due to a sudden surge in passenger volume, leaving crowds stuck for over three hours and causing ripple-effect delays at other major interchanges like LRT Bangsar.

With top authorities officially alerted to the daily nightmare faced by commuters, many transit users are hoping to see tangible improvements soon, including increased train frequency, additional coaches during peak hours, and heightened security across rail lines.
