Civil Servant In His 40s Detained After Driving Against Traffic For 30 Metres On MEX Highway

According to Utusan Malaysia, the incident came to light after a 25-second video of the driver travelling against traffic went viral on Facebook, prompting police to identify and trace the driver.
Police detect viral video of incident
According to Sepang District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Norhizam Bahaman, police detected the viral video at around 10.30am, showing the incident that had taken place earlier.
Investigations found that the driver, a civil servant in his 40s, was travelling from Putrajaya towards Puchong when he accidentally missed the route to the MEX Toll Plaza (Putrajaya).
He then reportedly decided to turn back by driving against the flow of traffic to rejoin the route towards Puchong.
“The driver switched on his hazard lights and drove slowly for about 30 metres before entering the lane towards Puchong,” ACP Norhizam said.
Police track down driver after video goes viral
Following the online uproar, traffic investigators from the Sepang District Police Headquarters successfully tracked down the driver and the vehicle, bringing them in for questioning.
Authorities confirmed that:
- The driver’s license was still valid and active at the time of the incident.
- His statement has been successfully recorded by the police.
- Fortunately, the reckless maneuver did not result in any accidents or injuries to other road users.
The case is currently being actively investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous driving.
